Email Marketing
Email marketing fails for so many businesses, not just because their expectations are that it is a magic silver bullet - that will somehow drive business to their door.
But, mainly because they send drab, boring emails that are not relevant to most of the audience, with subject lines that, frankly discourage anybody, apart from the dullest, from reading!
Going back to the door analogy, (but from the other perspective) - There is a knock at the door, you answer, to find a Jehovah's witness standing there, speaking to you in drab monotone Swahili - In this unlikely scenario; you are also a newly ordained Catholic Priest......are you going to bother listening to anything they say?

The British hate being sold to...in other countries it is a noble profession, in the UK it is about as well respected as saying you are a politician!
Back to the door analogy - Imagine you have knocked on the door, it opens, only for you to then find another door to overcome, which is much more resilient - Wouldn't it be easier to nip around the back way, by lowering the resistance?
